Community Service (Al Manzil, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates)

As a part of extending services to the community, Skyline University College organized a “Fun & Frolic” event for the children with special needs, here today. These children were invited from Al Manzil, an organization in Sharjah which specializes in providing unique care to gifted children. The event arranged by Skyline students was aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of these special children. According to Mr Shrimal and Ms Rumsha, masterminds behind this event, “in a world which has forgotten the meaning of true friends and has starting revolving around wars and fights, this was a day spreading the word of affection and friendship. After numerous days of detailed planning under guidance of Dr Mohit, tourism faculty, we had put together a day on which we became a part of their lives and strived to give some joy and happiness to these children”.

A number of activities ranging from face-painting, arts and craft, dancing, singing, passing the parcel, musical chairs, were organized as fun events for these children. Mrs Haneefa Saleem, mother of Nadeem, a special child, appreciated the efforts done by the volunteers. “Unfortunately today’s youngsters do not feel comfortable with these special children but here in Skyline, it was altogether a different experience. Such events are required to enhance awareness among the people to integrate these special children in the society” she added. Mr. Kamal Puri, the President of Skyline University College congratulated the event team. “Inculcating Knowledge, Skills and Values is the mission of Skyline College. The students are encouraged to participate in community services along with studies and other co-curricular activities”, he added. Dr Amitabh, the Dean of Skyline University College said that such events should be organized more often. He also said that activities which not only entertain but also educate such special children should be focused upon in future. Lastly, a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Bismah brought an eventful and unforgettable day to an end.

“As the students got into their buses with their goody bags and that cheerful look on their faces we knew we had done something beyond academics and education, we had entered into the lives of special children and made them happy; which was way more than any educational achievement.” Ms Zaina, a volunteer from Skyline remarked.
